The DMV and a little exploring

It was a bittersweet trip to the DMV today. I switched my plates and drivers license to identify myself as a citizen of Alabama. I had to take a pictures of my Illinois license for posterity, especially since I think I took a decent photo (rare for a license!).
It's never a quick trip to the DMV and this experience lived up to my Southern expectations. It took about two hours to get plates and a driver's license! Good thing I came prepared with my Kindle. I'd show you what my new license looks like, but they only give you a paper one and send the real one out in the mail. Different, right?

Afterwards, I decided to go exploring in Fairhope - a charming town about 20 minutes down the Eastern Shore from where we live. I had read that a place called Panini Pete's has some of the best beignets (delicious French donuts) in Alabama, so I wanted to give them a try. It took a bit of sleuthing to find the cafe because it was tucked back in a lovely little garden in Fairhope's version of the French Quarter.
Sadly, the beignets are only made for breakfast and they were all out for the day :(. So I had a little glass of wine and an overpriced bowl of soup instead. The ambiance balanced out my disappointment and I will have to return another time.

In random sightings: on the drive home, I saw a man riding a horse down the side of the highway....
